Faction of Fools Theatre Company:
How the Sausage Gets Made
Faction of Fools Theatre Company’s play, onstage in summer 2025, takes a hilarious look at how a bill becomes a law. The play, written by the devising ensemble of Faction of Fools, pays homage to political stories like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington or The West Wing and educational classics like Schoolhouse Rock. My design reaches back to a more conciliatory political era, with Saul Bass-y arrows that represent a bill’s tortuous path through the legislature and illustrations inspired by mid-20th-century political cartoons. The typography has its roots in politics too: the campaign uses DMV-based type designer Tré Seals’ VTC Martin, which is inspired by the I AM A MAN signs of the Memphis Sanitation Workers’ Strike.
